TllK derelict vessel which was discovered some days ago olf the Harbour of Newcastle, still remains in the same position, her anchors holding firmly. The steamer Alhambra was chartered to endeavour to remove the obstruction, hut has not succeeded. Yesterday the steamer enter ing the port ran foul of the ill-fated vessel, and sink in a few minutes, the crew having but a feu minutes in which to save themselves. July 2. A meeting of the South Pacific Petroleum Company, which was to have been held to-day, has been postponed till Thursday. Melbourne, July 1. The total revenue of the colony for the year amounts to £7,000,000, being an increase on last year of £87O,00f). The principal increases have been in the following departments: — Customs, £220,000 : and Public Works, £:507,000. July 2. A barmaid named Hcnora Campbell died here yesterday under suspicious circumstances, and at the inquest to-day a medical testimony proved that an illegal operation had been performed on the"woman. The jury returned a verdict of wilful murder against some pei'3on or persons unknown. Hoc art, July 2. The proposal to impose a Laud Tax has been carried. The Treasurer announced if all the taxation proposals of the Government were not agreed to, an appeal would be made to tho country.
