WEDNESDAY. The House met at 2.30 p.m. The Customs Duties Bill was further considered in committee. Full list of machinery for acfricultural purposes: Mr Withy moved to include under this item " patented and motive and other machines, appliances and tools, rights to which have been arranged for by any firm in the colony, —Sir H. Atkinson said he could not accept the addition, which was lost by -15 to 3'J, and the item is retained.—Mr O'Cabaghan moved to include machinery for roller flour mills, in the full list. Agreed to. Mr Withy moved that electric lighting be added to the full list. —Sir H. Atkinson said he proposed to put a duty of 5 per cent on th is class of machinery for mining pur poses Mr Fitcliett moved that the item be struck out, but the Chairman ruled that the motion could not be put. Mr Eitchett hoped the Premier would consider the advisability of putting some tax on this machinery.-— Mr Seddon moved to add to the item, "dredgers and dredging appliances." He expressed hi-; surprise that any member could advocate a tax on mining machinery. —Mr Pish opposed the amendment, as ho was certain dredging machines could be made in the colony. Agreed to on the voices after considerable discussion Mr Withy then altered his motion to admit " tlectric machinery and appliances " free. He thought this class of machinery should certainly bo admitted free, so as to enable the colony to keep in the fore front of the world. Agreed to by 42 to 85. Mr Buchanan moved to include wood working machinery covered by patent. Lost on the voices. Mill-Boards and paper albuininised were added to the list, in the item photographic cameras, and the words "and lenses" were added. In the item portable engines, traction engines were also included. Printed book papers and music : Mr Steward moved to insert instead of papers, "newspapers, and periodicals." Sir H.
