THE WRECK OF THE HAWEA

[DY TKLKUKAI'H—PKBSS AfSOCIiTIOX.I Wellington, Monday. The nautical inquiry, touching the wreck of the llawea was continued this morniiu'. Robert Thompson, collector of customs at New Plymouth, gave evidence as to the measurement of the anchor and chain, and said that in fine weather the bottom where the Hawea is could be distinctly seen, and was all sandy. Did not profess to have made a survey of the place. There might be rocks covered with sand. Captain Robertson, one of the nautical assessors, observed that he knew the place well, and had frequently seen rocks above the sand a little further in than where the Hawca is. At this stage, on the application of Mr Gully, who appeared for the Customs, another adjournment was grauted for the purpose of getting the evidence of a diver, to be engaged to make a good survey and inspection of the bottom.
