THE HAMILTON BRASS BAND.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—-On Saturday evening last the Hamilton Band turned out and enlivened the township by playing in the principal thoroughfares. All must have been struck by the marked improvement in the band since last they played iu public, and must feel that it would be a good thing for the inhabitants of the borough, if the band were encouraged to turn out oftener. Perhaps if the bandmaster were to send a list round amongst the shopkeepers he would find that they would subscribe sufficiently liberally to induce the band to play each Saturday evening during the winter months. That the populace love music — indifferent as to its quality—is made evident by the crowds that follow the bare cornets of the "Army" each evening. A suggestion for the band. Quadrilles, waltzes, polkas, etc., are very well in their way, but what we should like to hear, and I think I speak advisedly, would be some of the grand national airs, i.e., "Rule Britannia," ''Marsellaise Hymn," "Watch on the Rhine," eto. However for my part I shall be glad to aid the band by subscribing to their fund, —I am, Sir. Yours &c. Tradesman.
