WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL
The following is the Engineer's report, presented and adopted at the last sitting of the Waikato County Council :—" Hamilton, 22nd June, ISBS,—This Chairman Wailcatn County Cimticil. — Sir, — I have thoroughly inspected the mad bridge over the Wliaiigamanno Creek, and find that it is in thoroughly good order as regards the timber work, &o. The deck needs cleaning down very badly, as the accumulation of dirt is rotting tho wheel guard* a little. 11 possible, the Council .should now paint the whole mi the superstructure (tho bridge has never been painted.) The amount of work to be done is about 220 square yards of painting. The estimated cnst of this is £'11 or £12. The bridge at Jeffries' over tho Wliangamarino has not gone mi as fast as expected. I inspected the whole of the squared timber, and passed it for the contractor. The bridge should be completed in two or three weeks from date. 1 have inspected the road through Mr Young's wattle plantation, ai.d liud that the total cost to make it open f.-ir dray traffic would be £30, or a little ov.-.r. Of this i irckon that £20 is required to make the swampy portion, the balance bi-i-ig required for earth cuttings and sidings down tlio hill. Mr Young informs me that tilts proprietors aio willing to undertake tlie earthworks and complete them if the Council will do the swamps. The offer is a good one, and if the Council resolve to do the work, tundors could be called for next meeting. The company have 1700 acres ot wattles growing and :<re about to start to thin out the trees, for which work this road is absolutely necessary. 1 have seen the site of the proposed drain across tho road at lluutly, where the Taupiri Coal Company are sinking their shaft, and recommend that their request be granted, subject to their giving a guarantee to place the road in as good order as at present, and to make good any damage done to tho road by their workings.—l here area lot of 2ft. pipes iu the road near Mr Muir's farm, which are at present useless, owing to the drainage works carried out by the l-io-vcrnineut, and those might be lifted and utilised elsewhere, either at a bad swamp on the South side of Tole's Hill, or iu tho drain which crosses the main road near the Taupiri branch line, which is in a most insecure state, The pipes at present in are not large enough, nor long enough, and an accident niiafht happen at any moment. I have an offer to lift, remove, and relay the pipes for £2, the road to be left in good order. I send a list of allotments in front of which furze is growing and creating a nuisance. The whole of the metal purchased by tho Council has been used to repair the Wairangi swamp road which is now in good order. I notice that the bye-law boards in the riding have been knocked about a good deal, and in ono or more instances removed altogether. This has evidently been deliberately done, au3' b not the effect of any accident. —I am, Sir ,yours obediently, T. G. Sandbs, C-K., County Engineer. Fuitzß Nuisaxck.—To the Chairman Waikato County Council : Silt,-—I hereby certify that a nuisance exists iu the shape, of growing gorse or sweet briar in front of the following land.--.—Sections No. 22;'., 224, 225, 220, 228, 220, I'arish of Whangarauino ; Sections No. 42, -13, 44, 45. 4(i, 40, 3!>, 38, 37, S(5 35, 27, 2(5, 24, 23, Parish of faupiri; AlsoiA-nnitagi's farm, no nuinher on map, and the road running between Sections 42 and 43 from the Great South road to the railway.—T.
