REDUCED TRAIN SERVICES.

TO THIS Erill'OJl, Silt,—lt is often said that man is a selfish being, and the experience of most of us goes to prove that the charge is too often true. The old saying "each man tor himself, and God for us all," expresses well the general state of the world. It is therefore truly delightful and refreshing to meet with a case, nowand then, of puruand disinterested benevolence, of self-denying and devoted patriotism. These, reflections occur to me upon reading your remarks about the proposed changes in Uk railway time table. Sir, I recognise and applaud your public spirit and vour devotion to the well-bung of the c mll try. I feel assured for the safety of the country you would bo willing to shed tho last drop of your brother's blood, and that to satisfy the cry for reticiichment you would put up with any inconvenience in tho person of your ncighours, sri long as you are not touched. Why should not Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Te Aroha, Lichfield, put up with a tri-weekly service so long as Hamilton lias a daily train. Let savings be etfected 1111 ywhere and everywhere so long as Hamilton is not touched. Nov/ will you kindly tell us, Sir, what amount will bo saved by the change. I am told on very good authority that it will not exceed £1000 a year, just two-(i ft lis of the salary proposed to be given to the Chief Commissioner of Railways. Comment surely is needless.— I am &c.,

J. H. Maxjieno. Te Awamutu, June 21st.
