FRIDAY. Thk Speaker took his seat at 2.30. The Hon. Colonel Brett presented a petition from Christchurch resi- '-r.ts praying for the abolition of the. total it,or, Hon. Mr Stevens presented a petition from Christchurch residents, praying that the Government would not gr: ? -i; State aid to Roman Catholic schools. The reasons assigned by the House of Representatives for disagreeing with the amendments in the Chinese Bill wore considered. ' Hon. Dr. Pollen moved that the Council insist on the amendments made by them. The motion was carried on the voices, and the Council rose at 3.40 till Tuesday.
