MELBOURNE GRAIN MARKET,

Messks Goi.dbouocoh & Co. Report as follows, for month ending May 30th :■- The business in Breadstuff's daring the past month has been of a very limited description and, notwithstanding the reported improvement in the price of wheat in the London market, shippers have been unable to take advantage of the rise, owing to the difficulty of procuring ships at a moderate rate of freight here, deducting shipments made since the commencement of the season to date, there is still something like 120,000 tons of wheat on hand, for which au outlet must be found prior to the next harvest. Assuming this estimate to be correct, which we have no reason to doubt, it is evident that extra shipments to Europe must be resumed on a lower range of prices, otherwise holders must be content with a dull and dragging market for the rest of the year. The weather during the month has been very favourable for agricultural operations, the dry season having fairly broken up. Fanners, therefore, have taken full advantage of the change, and, should nothing occur to militate against present prospects, a fair season is looked for. Wheat : A verv limited business is doing at from 3s 4.', d to 3s 5d per bushel for best milling and whipping descriptions, Flour has changed hands for export to the extent of several hundred tons at from £7 2s Gd to £7 5s for stone dressed, other descriptions are offering from £8 10s to £9, according to quality. Oats aro very dull of sale at from 2s 8d to 2s 9d for thin to medium feed, up to 2slod for stout. Barley has a firm market from Fh 3d for medium to good, up to Fjs 4d for prime quality. Peas realise 2s 9d, maize 3s 3d, and bran lOd per bushel.
