DEATH OF THE EMPEROR.

PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY.

[By Electric Tklhukaph.— Copyright.] Berlin, June 15. During last night the Emperor Frederick had fitful slumbers, but little real rest. At three o'clock in the morning his weakness increased alarmingly. June 16. [ The Emperor wrote fully to his family and on State affairs, and took the Sacrament at midnight. He had great difiicnlty in breathing and alarming symptoms set in just before eleven in the morning, when he coughed with violence, and died, holding the hand of the Empress. The immediate cause of death was paralysis of the lungs. He now lies in state at tho Garrison Church, and will be buried at Potsdam on Monday. In his last interview the Emperor placed the Empress' hand in Prince Bismarck's, silently recommending reconciliation. The Prince of Wales, Princess Alexandra, and Prince Victor started for Berlin, but did not arrive in time. All German cities are draped in crape. The European and English newspapers recognisc in Prince William a new factor, and doubt whether Russia and France will be allowed to continue their menacing armaments, and to choose their own time for fighting. His Majesty wrote : " I tried my best to do my duty to God and to the country." He directed that his funeral should be void of all pomp, and that only his nearest relatives should attend. Later. The Empress remained at the Emperor's bedside throughout the night until death took place. Tho Crown Prince placed the Iron Cross and the Order of Merit on his father's breast ; and he has notified Italy and Austria officially of the death of the Emperor, and assured them of his adherence to the existing treaties. His Majesty's last words were to learn to bear suffering without complaining. The Press continue doubtful as to the permanence of peace being secured. A post-mortem txaminatian made on the body of His Majesty proved the presence of cancer iu the throat. June IS. The autopsy of the late Emperor shows that the larnyx was completely destroyed. Sir Morrull McKenzie his certified to the presence of cancer in the trachea. Los'noy, June 10. Both the House of Lords and the House of Commons have passed message? of condolence at the death of the Emperor, and notice of addresses of sympathy to be forwarded to the Empress have been given. Sydney, June 1(S. Universal sorrow has been expressed at the Emperor's death. The flags iu the city and shipping are at half-mast. His Excellency the Governor, Lord Carrington, and His Worship the Mayor have, on behalf of New South Wales, sent messages of condolence to the Empress of Germany. There were signs of sorrow manifested in the city on the announcement of the death of the Emperor of Germany, and minute guns were fired. The news has been received with great sorrow throughout New Zealand, and messages of condolence hive been forwarded from Wellington. At the chief towns flags were hoisted half-mast high.
