MINING.

Gauina.— During the past fortnight Kneebone and party have driven about 13 feet in one drive and 24 in another, the country is tough but shoots fairly well. Diamonij Gully,- -The Company lias ceased operations in this mine for the present, the prospects to date, I understand, have not been sufficiently encouraging to warrant them in spending any more money on this portion of their property.

Hkro. —The contractors in this mine are doing well, they have driven over 40 feet this last fortnight, they seem to be the right men in the right place and know how to make a drive pay. A paddock capable of holding 25 tons of quartz has just been completed. Colonial. —Nothing of particular interest to report concerning this mine In breaking down the reef gold is occasionally seen.

New Find. —In Maisey's contract they aro breaking out good payable dirt, tho number of trucks weekly from this contract, averages 35, which is about the only stuff the battery is crushing at present. The directors of the Aroha Silver and Gold Mining Company Messrs McGregor and Jameisoivin company with Mr Howell (the mining expert) aro expected here about the end of the week.
