Copeland, M.A., for New Englaud, to increase the import duties on agricultural products, was negatived by 42 to 23. Brisbane, June 12. Parliament was opened to-day. The Premier, Sir Samuel Griffith, announced to the House that in consequence of the recent elections, he had placed the resignation of the Ministry in the hands of the Governor. Melbourne, June 12. Another riot took place in Burkestreet last night. The larrikins attacked the pcliec, throwing glass bottles. One of the prisoners, several of the police, and one little girl were seriously injured. The wounded are being treated at the hospital. The man Ryan was charged at the Police Court to day with attempting to shoot Constable Nicholson last -week. The case was dismissed, and the constable will probably be brought before the Court on a charge of perjury. ■ June 13. A first-class militia reserve is being formed.

Three men were poisoned at Gcelong by fumes from the chemical manufactory. One is dead, and the others are in a critical condition. Port Darwin, June 12. The police sent to Ivopperanama have returned, bringing with them six natives concerned in the murder of a black shepherd.
