THE SALVATION ARMY.
The fact that the Salvation Army has become such a popular institution in Hamilton warrants us in giving a more extended notice of its operations. On the 13th May three officers of the Army "opened fire," nnd the barracks selected was the Oddfellows' Hall, Hamilton East. Advancing with steady persistency, *hey have night by night increased the number of converts, and now it is not an uncommon event to see 40 or 50 persons in the march, headed by Captain Cutler and Lieutenant Ellis, with, their cornets. Whether regarded from the standpoint of simple morality or from the more severe religious aspect of the movement, it is a fact beyond dispute that great good has been done. It is, apparently, but a repetition ofthe Army's work, as declared to be going on in all lands whore it has spread. Noted characters of dissolute habits, men and women who have been slaves to vices of various kinds, now publicly declare that " God, for Christ's suite, lias forgiven them all the past, and now they mean to live for God, and tight in the ranks of the .Salvation Army." The officers have received .much help and sympathy, and one noteworthy token of thia him been the free use on Saturday evenings of the Public Hall, Hamilton West. In addition to this, the Vestry of S. Peter's Chnrch, who have right to the Public Hall on Sundays, granted permission to tho Army, to use the building on Sunday evening last. Some'loo persons were comfortably seated in the Hall, and the meeting was of the usual Army description. Earnest addresses were givon by Mrs Cutler, Lieutenant Ellis, Cadet Leonard, and others. A solo, "Too Late," sung by a lady, was beautifully rendered, and had a marked effect, and at tho close of the meeting there were several kneeling at tho penitent form,—(Communicated.)
