CHINESE QUESTION.

Tun Legislative Council has negatived the indemnity clause in the Chinese Bill by a majority of 3.1 to 5. , A new clause has been inserted indemnifying the Government for the acts of May 1, provided thfi persons are not deprived of thoir right of action before the passing of this Bill.
Advices from Hongkong state that Governor Des Vceux has expressed indignation at the action taken iu Victoria in keeping the .Chinese out, find .the Chamber tof ; Commerca ;passe3i ; resolutions against the restriction upon tlie Chinese. The Chinese residents in the city are considering the advisability of requesting Sir Henry'Earkes to allow their being represented at the forthcoming Ciiinese Conference.
