[itV TIiLKCK.U'H—OWN CORUBSPONDRNT. | Auckland, Monday. Tub racehorses Erebus and Allegro arrived from tile South to-day. A valuable, collection of birds and animal skins, belonging to Mr Itcischeck was destroyed by salt water on the voyage of the Stella. ; John Knapman and William Fleming were convicted of fighting in Newton on Sunday week, and fined 40s and costs or 7 days, and Hoberfc Foster, charged with forgery, was committed for trial. A man named John Power attempted to out his thror.t at P.irnell this morning. Owing to the bluntness of the knife, he failed, and was arrested by Constable Hobsoti, and subsequently committed to tho asylum. According to the Star's Wellington correspondent, Mr E. Hesketh is named as one of the probable successors to the judgeship rendered vacant by the death of Judge ffohnstun.
