WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Waikato County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Hamilton East, yesterday, at 2.30. There were present : Councillors Primrose (chairman), Smith, Johnson, Barugh and Seddon. Mr T. G. Sandes, County Engineer, was also in attendance. After the confirmation of the minutes the outward correspondence was read and received.

Riding Accounts.—The state of the various riding accounts is in credit. Rangiriri, £328 19s; Kirikiriroa, £41 12s 2d ; Cambridge, £162 0s 2d. In debit: Tamahere, £7 6s 11d.

Rate.—Cr. Seddon gave notice to move at next meeting that the Council levy a rate of ¼d in the £ in the Rangiriri district.

Accounts.—The Auditor-General advised having returned the balance sheet and statement of account for the year ended 31st March 1888, as being duly certified to by him as correct.

Dog Tax. —It was left in the hands of the Chairman and Clerk to appoint a dog tax collector in the Rangiriri district at a remuneration of 1s 6d per collar for cattle and sheep dogs and 2s per collar for all other dogs.

Legal Expenses.—The Clerk read the following as the proportion of the amounts due by the various local bodies to defray the legal expenses in connection with the case against the Auckland Hospital Board :—

Waikato County, £24 15s 9d; Waipa County, £23 7s 4d ; Raglan County, £6 12s 3d ; Hamilton Borough, £3 2s 3d ; Cambridge Borough, £1 17s 10d.

Ralph's Gate. —As objections to erecting this gate were received from ratepayers interested in this road, the resolution granting permission to Mr Ralph to erect this gate was rescinded.

Payments.—The following accounts were passed for payment:—Returning officers, £1 10s ; LeQuesne, 3s 2d ; Wilson and Horton, 10s; Smith, J. J., 10s; Johnson, F. J., £1 10s ; THE Waikato TIMES, £1 16s ; Waikato Hospital Board,. £352 7s 2d; Patterson, £1 16s ; Littlewood, £1 16s ; Birss, £3 ; S. Hill, £19 5s.

River Road.—Cr. Johnson was authorised to employ a surfaceman on this road for a month, and also to get a bridge, which had broken down, re-built.

This being all the business the Council rose.
