QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY
Thursday was observed as a general holiday by tlio people of Waikato. The chief attraction appeared to be the return football match in Auckland between England and the local players; fully four hundred passengers met at Krankton Junction by the converging linen of rails to proceed to the city by the excursion train. .-The'railway officials were obliged-'"to put* on more carriages to accommodate the large traffic which was greater than had been ejected. HAMILTON LIGHT JNI'ANTUY.
The above corps paraded at 11 a.m. at the Volunteer Hall, and after inspection by Capt. Reid and Lieut. Edgecnmbe, were marched, headed by their band, under T!andmastor Mettam, to the Hamilton West school hill, where a feu-de-joie was fired in honour of the day. The company was then marched to Heaphy Terrace, Hamilton East, where, after marching past, a short skirmishing drill was gone through. Tin's was marred, owing to a heavy shower of rain coming on, and the intended programme had to be abandoned. The men then marched back to the hall, whore they were dismissed. A dance under the auspices of the baud was held in the evening, and was well attended.
