THE RAILWAY ACCIDENT NEAR TAUPIRI.

TO TFIK KIIITOIf. Silt,- -Your correspondent " Ballastman " is rather rough on your report of the above, and uses sonic strong language, but with this I have nothing to do, although I have been publicly accused of writing the said report which you, sir, know I did not do. He, however, says that the telegraphist at Ngaruawahia did not refuse to send a telegram for me. rS'tnv this assertion is false, as such refusal was made to me before 8 o'clock p.m. that evening by the said telegraphist, and this will be fully proved to Mr Hudson, who has written to me on the subject, so I will say no more on this point just now. Another assertion that Mr Mistfm and T wore about the station till 2 o'clock a.m. i.T likewise false, as we arrived in Hamilton a little alter 5 o'clock, having had two spells on the road lasting 50 minutes altogether, which, according to the veracious "iiallastinan" would leave us about two and a-halE or two and three-quarter hours to walk about 12 miles on a nasty wet night and on a bad road, a task I think, we would hardly be equal to. At 2 p.m., wo were well past Pukete. This will, I think, show how correct hi» assertions are all through.— 1 am, &c., T. (I. SAXDKS.
