A scAt'FOT.DiNTr wliioh was being erected at the Coffee Palace, fell with a tremendous crash to the pavement, fracturing the skull of a boy, breaking a girl's leg, anil seriously injuring two other persons, who were passing at the time. The workmen engaged on the structure escaped uiiinjured. Newcastle, May 17. A new reservoir at the gasworks, holding three million gallons cf water, burst to-day while being tested. Th'o damage done will take two months to repair. No one was injured. Brisbane, May 17. Two gold prospecting expeditions for New Guinea have been sanctioned by the Commissioner. Sydney, May 18. The labour schooner Madeline has been wrecked at Tonga, and the French vessel Idalio lias also been lost at Ambryn, one of the New Hebrides.
