LEGISLATIVE COUNCILWEDNESDAY. The Speaker took his scat ;it 2.30. NEW IJTLI 0. Several new bills were introduced by the H'»n. Sir F. Whitaker. COMMITTEES. Tho Hon. Mr Baillie was appointed Chairman of Committee, and the usual sessional committees wore appointed. ADI>UESfi-IN-HI!I'I,Y. The Hon. Mr McLean resumed tho debate on the Address-in-Reply. Ho considered a considerable saving could be made in tho Railways and Education Departments and thought Education Boards might be done away with. He said great care was necessary in legislation for the influx of Chinamen. The Hon. (!. H. Johnston would like to see the railways out of the control of the Government and considered too much fuss had been made about the Chinese Question. The Hon. Mr Shrimski briefly referred to the question of Free trade and Protection, and said a little of the latter was necessary. Tho motion was put and carried and the Council rose at 5.50. till Thursday.
