THE BATH LESSEE.

. « TO THE KDITOR. Sib,—Mr Pannell, the caretaker of the Hamilton Baths, has made an application to the Town Council to kindly remit the rent of the baths for the past season, on the score that the receipts did not come to anything like the amount he expected, which he attributes to the coldness of the weather, and if they enforce the same there will not be anything left for his five months'service. I, for one, shall be glad if our Council can see their way to remit the rent for the past season, without doing any injustice to the ratepayers, for the following reasons —viz. : He has been a valuable public servant; he has been most attentive and assiduous to his duties; we could send nur children to take baths daily without sufforing any fear of their being drowned. Bathinir is a very valuable and vigourous exercise, promoting the health of ajl who use the baths. Our children could learn the art of swimming, which I think all will admit is a very valuable acquisition. We pay our policemen, hospital doctors, and other public servants, why, therefore, should we not remunerate the caretaker of our baths, for it is a very responsible position ? The baths are open equally to every person in the town. I think I shall not be wrong in stating that the groat majority of the ratepayers would bo glad if our Council would acceed to Mr Pannell's application.—Yours, &c., John Pakh. Hamilton, May Kith, ISSB.
