STATUTORY ROAD BOARD MEETINGS.
Taotaoroa Road Board. The annual mooting of ratepayers of the Taot.ioroa Road District was held at tha Criterion Hotel, Cambridge, at 11 a.m. on Saturday last. The only ratepayers present were the members of the Board, viz Messrs N. I. Hunt, li. J. Kallendar, U. .T. Hally, C. M. and H. R. Brunskilll. The only business was the reading ami adoption of the annual accounts, which had bean duly signed by the Government Inspector, Mr Durrien. The balance shiet* showed on the 3lst March last; A-wets, £410 lis 4d ; liabilities, £31 lis 3d. The chairman having signed it, the annual meeting closed. JtOAHD MEETING-. The ordinary meeting for the month was then held, in lien of it biing on the third Saturday in the month, the whole of the members being present.— I The clerk (Mr McPherson), took the chair, and reported that Messrs C. M. Brunskill, 0. J. Hally, and H. .T. Kallendar, had been re-elected members of the Board, —Mr C. M. Brunskill moved and Mr Kallendar seconded, that Mr Hunt be elected chairman lor the ensuing year. Carried unanimously.—The same gentlemen also moved and seconded that Mr McPherson ba re-appointed clerk, treasurer, etc., which was also carried unanimously.—The Clerk renorted a credit balance at the bank of £'377 17s fid, and that there were still 23 rates to bo collected for the last year.—Proposed by Mr C. M. }3runskili, that the Bmrd do not strike a rate for the present year.—Seconded by Mr Kallendar and carried. Accounts. —The only account passed was one, for Richard Watfcam of £2 14s. Cammudok-Oxford Hoad —Mr C. M. Brunskill said the Piako County Council would meet on Thursday, and if it met with the approval of the Board, ho would suggest to the Council tlr.i advisability of a surfaceman being put on the Cambridgc--o<ford road for a term of three mouths ; that would at any rit'.i prevent it getting into a worse state. —The Chairman : I think that would meet the ca<e, but they should allow us to superintend him. I think it is very hard that the proprietors of the two properties who pay the ruaj ■irity of the rates should not have the road thac they use looked after. All the money has gone to the goldfislds, and if they should now turn out a success, the next thing we shall hear of is that they will want to be separated from the county, and the money the other ridings have supplied will be forgotten.— Mr Brunskill was instructed to lay the matter before the Council.
Fkhnch Pass Road.—'The Clerk was ordered to ask the Cambridge Road Board to put a surfaceman on the above road tor two or three days, to clear away some landslip*, so that horsemen could pass along it. This closed the business.
Cambridge Road Board
The annual meeting of the ratepayers of the Cambridge Koad District was held at Bach's Hotel, Cambridge, on Saturday last at 2 p.m. Present: Messrs J, Taylor, J. Forrest, .T. Allwill, J. R. S. Richardson, J. P. Thomson, J.J. Smith, Ureakell and Booth. The aec Hints for the past year were read and adopted, after which they were signed by the chairman (Mr Taylor). They showed on March 31st, assets, £210 14s 3d ; liabilities, £25 (is lid. —Mr Richardson drew attention to the state of the Fencourt-Maungakawa road, and said it would be impassable ]in winter. —Mr Forrest undertook to lay the matter before the Blard. Tin; Pitoi'osui) Nk»v Road.— A letter was read fr-m Mr Bayley, on behalf of the Auckland Agricultural Company, regarding the proposed deviation of the Fencourt Hautapu road, the terms being : " That in consideration of their allowing a road one chain wide to be made running parallel .to the railway, the Board must convey to the company the whole of the tramway road, which is two chains wide, excepting that portion taken by the railway. Then they must further make a bridge under the proposed new road 14 feet wide, to enable cattle, etc., to get to the creek, as otherwise the water would be cut off. The Board to pay all expenses of convoying, surveying, &c."—Mr Forrest thought the terms preposterous, and would cost hundreds of pounds. — Mr Breakell thought the Company were acting in a very fair way.—Mr Allwill thought Mr Forrest evidently did not know the ground, or he would be aware that an embankment would not havo to be made.—Mr Thomson asked if the old tramway road cost more than the deviation.—Mr Breakell said the deviation road, with the cost of tho bridge, would be less than half the cost of the tramway road. —Mr Thomson thought they might call for alternate tenders and accept tho cheapest. —After some further discussion tho matter dropped, and the meeting terminated. hoard meeting. Tho monthly meeting of tho Board was then held. Present: Messrs Taylor, Thomson, Forrest and Smith. Mr James Taylor was re-elected chairman, the other officers being also re-appointed. The New Rath.—lt was resolved to strike a rate of Jd in the £ at the next meeting of the Board. In consequence of the rate being half that of last year, the collector's remuneration was raised from G to 7ij per cent. Tiik New Koad. —On the motion of Mr Forrest, tho consideration of Mr Bayloy's letter referred to above was deferred until the next meeting of tho Board. Fur.NC'ii Pass Road.—Mr Forrest was authorised to put a surfaceman on this road to do neccssary repairs. Accounts.--Ono account, Thomas Bros. £10 fis, was passed, and the Board roso.
