TE AROHA

Domain Board.—ln compliance with the notification in the New Zealand Gazette of April, the first meeting of the recently appointed Ta Aroha Domain Board was heid on Friday, the 4th inst. The only business transacted was the election of a chairman for the year, and Mr F. Pavitt was voted to fill the position. Some misapprehension has existed with regard to the functions of this Board owing to the name bearing a similarity to that of another body existing in the district. The land constituting the domain of which tho Board has control is situated southward of the Government township reserve on the west side of the river. It adjoins the cemetery and includes the ground formerly known as the Recreation reserve, the total area being about ItiO acres. At their next meeting, the Board will probably decide as to the best means of temporarily utilising the land, the whole of which is at present lying waste.

Hor Strings Board. — The monthly meeting of the Hot Springs Domain Board took place oil Saturday, the members present being: M<«.irs T. Gavin (chairman), Ahier, Ilott and Lipsey. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed. The usual statements of accounts were submitted, and showed the receipts from the sale of bath tickets for the four weeks ending May sth to be £45, bringing the credit balance at the bank up to about £115. It was resolved that the chairman confer with the engineer with regard to the extension of tho tennis lawn or oval. (When this is completed it will add much to the appoarance of the grounds, and it is proposed to proceed with the work without delay.) A discussion took place relative to the claim of £10 10x by Dr. Wright for services in revising tho handbook to the baths. Ultimately the claim was allowed, and some wages accounts were also passed for payment. The business of the meeting then terminated. Burglary.—Persistent efforts have been made by the police to secure the perpetrators of tho recent robbery at the railway station, but thus far they have not been successful.

Local Option'.—Tho triennial poll to determine whether the number of licensed houses in the district may or may not be increased was taken to-day (Monday). Twenty-r.ine votes were recorded for an increase, and twenty-eight against.
