FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE.
(By Electric Telegraph—CorvmonT.) London, April 30. M. Habeht, an artist, and M. Dufsins, in Paris, quarrelled in consequence of the hitter's criticisms of the former's work, and fought a duel yesterday. , The latter was killed. Mr Phillips, a Home Ruler, has been elected for Lanarkshire (Middle Division), in place of Mr Stephen Mason, resigned, The defeated candidates were Mr Bonefield, Conservative, and Mr Hardie, a labour candidate. Mr Stephen Mason, tho former holder of the seat, was a Gladstone Liberal. A body of Montenegrins has raided a part of the country and seized a large tract of land. Mr Fuller, of Illinois, has been appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Information has been received of the election of Paul Kriiger to the Presidency of the Transvaal. Count Wolfenstein succeeds Count Karolyi as Austrian Ambassador in. London. President Carnot, speaking at Bordeaux, stated that he intended to follow a policy of prudence and liberty which would guarantee peace both at home and abroad.
