SERIOUS ACCIDENT TO A CHILD.

A LITTLE girl, three years of age, a daughter of Mr James Radford, of Hamilton East, met with a shocking accident by fire yesterday evening. In Mr Radford's kitchen is one of those capacious chimneys that enables the inmates to get inside and sit around the tiro. It appears that the children were sitting in this position whilst Mrs Radford was outside milking the cows. Mr Lees, sewing machine agent, was riding past the house at this time, and heard screams proceeding from the house, followed by the figure of a child rushing out of the door enveloped in flames. With commendable promptitude he jumped off his horse, ran to the child, seized her and wrapped his coat around her, thus extinguishing the fire. The poor little girl was dreadfully burned about the faco, arms and body, and was speedily conveyed to the Waikato Hospital in Capt. Steele's buggy, which was placed at the disposal of the parents. Dr. Kenny applied the usual remedies, but the child lies in a critical state. Mr Lees' horse, left on the road whilst he went to the child's rescue, has not been recovered.
