*> [IJY TKJ.EGRAI'H —OWN COKKKSPONDKNT.] Auckland, Monday. Mr Mom-oy's lecture mi Home Rule was largely attended last night, amongst those present were, Archbishop Redmond, Bishop Luck, and Sir CJ. Grey. The Star published a sensational report of an interview with a French escape, from which it appears that 2000 recidivistes are in Auckland, Of course the statement is quite absurd. At 1.30 this morning, the Arondale Holßi, in the township, several miles from Auckland, owned bf Mr Uaktn, and occupied by Mr Murdoek, caught fire and was totally destroyed, Air Murdoek and his [i'.mily had a narrow escape, and cannot in any way iiccimnt for the origin of the fire. The whole of his furniture and stock was consumed, together with £95 in cash. The hotel was a pretty old one, and was insured for £'800 in the New Zealand Office, the furniture, stook, etc., were insured for €700 in the South British Company, but Mr Murdoek estimates, his loss at £400 above the insurance.
