TE AROHA.
* R.M. Court.—At the. R.M. Conrt, on Tuesday, tho bench, owing to the unavoidable absence of Mr Northcroft, was occupied by two of the local justices. Mrs A. Thomson, of the Family Hotel, Itollestonstreet, was charged by Sergeant Emerson with keeping her licensed premises open during prohibited hours. Defendant wired that being detained in Auckland, she could not appear. Case adjourned til) next sitting of the court on the 2-Ith inst. J. Brumby v. E. W. Haniner, claim £12 los for wages. This case was, on tho application of defendant, also adjourned till next court day. Owing to Mr Northcroft's absence, there was no business done in the Warden's Court. Sale of Mines.—The sale of the right to occupy a number of licensed holdings recently forfeited a% Waiorongomai took place at the Warden's Office on Tuesday. The following were the claims disposed of, Three Kools, -la. 3r. 32p. ; Empire, 4a. lr. 3Sp. ; Golden Gate, la. Or. 35p. ; Virginia City, sa. ; Provincial Amalgated, 2a. lr. 30p, Mr H. H. Adams acting for the Mount Aroha G. and S. M Co. was the purohaser of the whole of these at the upset price of £'2 2s each. The Werahiko No. 2 holding was disposed of to the same buyer (on other account) at a like figure. The first five claims formerly constituted the property of the Waiorongomai Goldmining Co. and it was expected, that in view of the stirring times that are in prospect for mining here, they would have fetched a high price but there was no competition. It is satisfactory to know that the ground has fallen into good hands, and that ths now owners mean to lose no time iu testing the value of their purchase. Immediately after acquiring it, tenders were invited for driving a low level through the ground, a work which will cost about £1000. Operations will also be carried on in other parts of the newly-purchased claims with all the energy that has characterised the doings of this company since its advent on the field. Valedictory Dinner.—On Monday evening the friends of Mr George Wilson entertained him at a banquet in the Club Hotel, previous to his departure from, this district to enter upon his new duties as Mining Inspector of tho Hauraki goldfiolds. There was a strong gathering, and the whole of the proceedings must have been j most gratifying to the guest of the evening. | Mr Wilson left here for the Thames on Tuesday. S. Mark's Church.—The quarterly meeting of the vestry of 8. Mark's (Anglican) Church took place on Tuesday evening. There were present the Rev. J. Marshall, M.A. (chairman), Messrs Marsden and Ahier (churchwardens), Dr. Wright, and Messrs Dobson and Heathcote. The minutes of the previous quarterly and special meetings were read and confirmed. A statement of affairs was submitted by tho Secretary, and showed satisfactory progress. The offertories for the quarter were considerably in excess of the total for the same period of last year, and matters generally were reported to be in a healthy slate. A warm vote of thanks was unanimously passed to Mrs Wright for her successful efforts in procuring contributions towards ! the extinction of the remainder of the debt on the building fund account. The other business was of a routine nature.
