REPORT ON AGRICULTURAL AND DAIRY SCHOOLS.

♦ The report of the Departmental Commission of Agricultural and Dairy Schools, f submitted to the Privy Comncil, and dated December !)th, ISB7, recommends the establishment of a Central Normal School of Agriculture, and suggests the granting exhibitions in the existing agricultural colleges and the endowment of certain middle-class schools. The committee are of opinion that increased facilities should be given for the study of the principles of agriculture in rural elementary schools, and they recommend that scholarships for boys and girls who ' have passed the sixth standard should be i available at the district dairy schools, i Of these dairy schools it is suggested that seven should be established, five in England and Wales, and two in Scotland, i with an endowment of, say, £500 a I year each, and certain other grants for ; scholarships and exhibitions. It is re- j commended, too, that Government I assistance should be giveu to minor I agricultural or dairy schools, and that I travelling lecturers should be encouraged 1 Original agricultural research, too, should i be encouraged. For this purpose an ' annual grant in £3000 is considered t advisable.
