A HARVEST SONG.

O'er the far-reaching fields of upland and plain The harvest of Summer is golden again, And the clicking of reapers lings out on the air, For self-binding reapers are harvesting there; , And as fast as the teams speed along oer the ground The ripe grain is cut, neatly gathered and bound ; And skilful hands follow to put it in shock, Saving food for the master and food for the stock. Then hurrah for the reaper that harvests so well ! . i • i Let the lips that speak well of its high merits tell, For we harvest to-day with comfort and ease, With the mercury standing at ninety degrees. Oh ! wo dread not to enter the harvest today, As we did in the years that have circled away, No old-fashioned sickles our skiful hands bear, No cradles are swung by the strong-handed there ; ... Now few of a burden oppressive complain, Eor with self-binding reapers we harvest tllc K'' ili " ! . ~ , , , -,r ~ And the work is so quickly and skilfully done, . We're proud of the triumph that genuis has won. Then hurrah for the reaper, etc. The old-fashioned tools that were once used with pride As things that are worthless are now set For the needs of the times have inspired men of thought, And things of high merit and power have been wrought; And though better things skilful hands may prepare, To add to our comfort and lessen our care, A marvel of skill, sneh as seldom is seen, Is this useful, time-saving, self-binding machine. Then hurrah for the reaper that harvests so well ! Let the lips that speak well of its high merits tell, For we harvest to-day with comfort and ease, With the merciry stand -ig at ninety degrees.
