(The Tinus). Tiik last mail from Amerien, gives fn details of the estimates of the crops f 18S7 in that country. These figures hav lieen prepared I>y the Hon. .1. !{. Dodge the statistician to the department c Agiienlture, and give the acreage, pre dnee, and value of maize, wheat-, an oats for er-'eli State and territory. The whole of the above figures are M Dodge's, including the tolals an< averages, in the column for values, tin totals and averages are not woiked ou from {he Modish ligures. In putting tin values for each year's crop into Englisl money in some oases there would be few shillings over, which do not appear The total and averages arc the actua number of dollars of _ the total anr averages put into English money, ant not an addition and average of the Eng> lish tabic. The table is interesting a: showing that, with some 12,000,000 acre: more in wheat than the average durim the decade previous to 1880, the crop i,' worth less by over millions stcling Like the figures of our imports this is ; startling piece ot evidence as to the low liess of the present range of prices. The same report by Mr Dodge deal: with the prospect of growing wintei wheat. There is not much decreas; shown in area, the average decline Ijcinj: betwen 1 and 2 per cent. In lexa; there is a considerable decrease, and r slight increase in some of the other States, For the whole country the condition i: represented hv 05, and in the principal States ranges from 90 to 9S. In Kentucky the average is 97 ; Ohio, 99; Michigan, 08 ; Indiana, 100; Illinois, OS ; Missouri, 99 ; and Kansas OS. Condition is affected Fomewhat by the dryness of the seed bed in the districts that suffered from drought, this delaying seeding, germination, and growth. Late rains have greatly improved the situation. The prospect of the wheat crop in the Bombay Presidency is the subject of a first report for the crop issued at Calcutta by the Revenue and Agricultural Department, This is dated the 22nd of December, The season was then rather late in places, and sowing was still continuing. For this cause area details are incomplete. The report is as follows : — Decean.—Area, 1,150.000 acres, or (i per cent, above average and 9 per cent, above last year's area. Increase general —November rain, timely for extension ot wheat area. Condition good and prospects excellent. Ooojerat. — Area, .100,000 acres, or 21 per cent, below average, and 27 per cent, below last year's area. Except in Surat decrease everywhere is due to insullieiency of September and absence of October rain. Condition on the whole good. These remarks apply to native .States. Carnatic.— Area, 500,000 acres, about crpial to that of last year. Condition fair. Crop in places attacked by rust. Native States show a slight increase. Seinde.— Area, 200,000 acres, decrease due to scanty rainfall fur dry crop, and low inundation of Indus for irrigated wheats.
