HAMILTON WESLEYAN CONCERT.

The concertin aid of the Trinity Wesleyan Church, Hamilton, held last evening in the Public Hall, Hamilton, was not halt as well patronised as the programms warranted ; indeed it has been some time since such good music has been placed before the Hamilton public, and we veiy their regret that so indifferent a house rewarded the efforts of those who have with so much care and attention devoted much time in perfecting themselves in the various selections set down upon last night's programme. The concert opened with an overture by Miss Gatidin, which was very well received, followed by the glee, "See now the moonlight." The next item oil the list a song by Mr Dellow, "Londonßridge," was faultlessly rendered. Miss Salmon then sang, "The Gate of Heaven," very sweetly and feelingly. The duet by Mrs Maxwell and Mr Meachem, " What are the wild waves saying," is an old favourite, and is always appreciated. Captain Reid then favoured the audience with that genuine Scotch ditty, "The Laird o' Coekpen," to which he did full justice. We were told tho accent and enuueiation were perfect. An encore being enthusiastically demanded, Captain Reid responded with " Ran tin Robin, ' which was equally pleasing to the audience. Mrs Maxwell, a lady who is a stranger to Hamilton, then sang "The Lover and the Bird." It was at once apparent that an artist of considerable ability was before the house. A very pleasing song, " The Reign of the Roses," was then sung by Miss Chappell, who evinces talent which may be cultivated to much advantage. Miss Chappell narrowly escaped an encore. A glee by tho full company then followed; after which Miss Trewheellar favoured the aiidicnce with a $ong entitled, " O Love is a Prpaip," ivhiell was sung in her usual finished style. Mr Meachem's song, "The White Squall," was the next item. Wc have heard this rendered by Mr Meachem with much better effect. Mrs Maxwell, who was greeted with applause on ascending the platform, then sang " Gates of the West," which was very rightly encoren, as undoubtedly this lady's singing was quite a treat to the audience, who have rarely had the pleasure of listening to so pure and sweet a soprano voice. Mrs Maxwell selected (' Milly's Faith" in response to the demand for an encore, whiel), although somewhat different in style from the previous song was done full justice to. A duet by Mrs Home and Miss Trewheellar, " The Sunken Cloister," The voices blended in perfect harmony in this selection. Messrs Dellow and Meaohem's duet, " Merry Minstrels," was a capital piece of vocalisation, and this, with the concerted pieces from the Fisk Jubilee Hymn Book, gave ample scope for the display of Mr Dellow's fine bass voice. The concert concluded with one of Kucken's glees, "The Watersprites," which, although rather au ambitions effort fqr a limited company, was very well rendered,'and it was quite evident a good deal of practice had been devoted to its preparation. The singing of God Save the Queen brought the concert to a close, ipid whilst regretting the rjij.ji.Qity of fhe ijttpndaufie, wc must congratulate the prQiijotsrs v 4 poij tljp very nice selections in their programme. Miss Campbell officiated as accompanist throughout the evening, with evident satisfaction to the performers, as not the slightest hitch occurred in any part of the programme.
