[by telegraph—own correspondent.] Auckland, Wednesday. At the Board of ElucUion meeting today, it was resolved to call for tenders for tho erection of a school building at Oxford. v The following report of the committee on the reduction of teachers was adopted, after some discussion, during which Mr Cooper and others contended that the retrenchment should he made to apply to teachers all round Your committee having considered the correspondence referred to them, of which a summary is subjoined, recommend that the Board should adhere to the resolution, which was adopted upon the joint recomendation of tho inspectors, in their report, dated December 22nd, ISB7 —viz., (1) " That the staff of assistant, and pupil teachers at each school be reduced to the strict limit of scale ; (2) that the scale be reduced by one pupil teacher in each school over 300 ; (3) that the employment of pupil teachers (under regulation SS) in schools from 30 to 40 be discontinued ; (I) that those pupil teachers who have twice failed to pass the same examination and have not obtained classification in Cla<s R. be dispensed with. Vour committee further recommend that the reduction of the staff of teachers be carried out gradually and in such a manner as to cause the least possible inconvenience to schools.
