CRICKET.
Taupiri CO. v. Paterangi CO. These clubs met for the first time this season ou the Hamilton C.C. ground, and after an exciting contest, Paterangi won by 1 wicket, playing nine men to their opponents ten. In their first venture, the Taupiri men were all dismissed for 37 by Crookes and McFarlane. Paterangi could only make 32, Cox being too strong for them with the ball, (5 wickets for G runs), only Johnston reaching double figures. Thanks mainly to Edney's defence and Jenkins' resolute batting, Taupiri then put on JO. Crookes bowling throughout maiden after maiden, but disappointed of wickets by the bumpy ground. Aubin did exceedingly well with his bowling for Pateraugi. With 20 runs to make, and only 2 wickets to fall, Paterangi's prospects looked anything but rosy, but thanks to the pluck they have showu more than once before this season favoured by a lucky overthrow and lost ball, they pulled the match out of the fire amidst intense excitement, thus preserving their unbeaten record for ISS7-S. Crookes and Goodfellow made 18 and 11 when sorely wanted. We append tho full score :— TAUPIRI. Ist inning*. 2nd innings.
