LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS.

[BY CORRESPONDENT Auckland, Friday. Thk Russian warship Rynda was thrown open to-day, and was visited by a large crowd. The band played on board, and the officers showed the greatest attention and courtesy to the visitors. Mr Seth Smith gave judgment to-day re the petitions gainst the return of the Ternpirance candidates for City North and South. He declared the election void, so there will be a new contest. The Royal Horticultural Society's Show opened to-day, and was largely attended. It was a great success in all respects. The chief prize takers were, for best collection of pot plants, D. Hay and Sons ; for best collection of ferns, .T. Craig and J. Bloomfield ; for best collection of dahlias, Misses'Speight and Dewes; for best collection of cut flowers, J. Craig and Mrs S. E. Hughes ; best collection of immortelles, D. Hay and Sons ; grapes, Houlton (Mitehelson's Gardner), and E. Jones ; figs, G. Osborne ; peaches, H. B. Young and E. F. Parr; plums, Parr; quinces, Houlton ; apples (Society's silver medal and forty plates of fruit), H. E. Sharp; dessui-t apples, W. E. Leppiatt; culinary, W. E. Leppiatt; twelve varieties dessert, E. J ,, . Parr; dessert pears, B. M. Grubb and Koeley; culinary pears, J. Keely and Pavr. The LaMonte furnace was sold to-day to Mr Spratt for £950 net cash.
