MURDER IN OTAGO.

Ibt telegraph—press association. 1 Du.veuin, Tuesday. James Mcßory was brought up at Lawrence to day charged with the murder of Alexander Connell, at Tnapeka, on the Gth inst., and on the application of th c police, was remanded until Monday next. Meantime an inquest will be opened tomorrow. From what has been learned, it appears that the men had been drinking. Afterwards Mcßory went outside, and Connell, with some others, came up, deceased attacked him, knocked him down, and knelt on him. Mcßory drew his knife and stabbed Connell in the groin. What took place afterwards is not known, but the wounded man appears to have received no attention whatever in thc way of attempting to dress the wonnd, and lie lay all night with his clothes saturated with blood. He was brought to the Lawrence Hospital in a spring cart by Edmonds, the landlord of the hotel. It is said that Dr. Withers gave Edmonds a message for another doctor, and also oue to the police to come and take the man's depositions; but for unexplained reason, neither were delivered. Moßory is a middle-aged man. His parents are said to reside in the Otahuliu district, Auckland. He has been engaged for some time as teamster on Mr James Smith's Greenfield estate.
