THE ELECTRIC LIGHT SCHEME.
(itv TKT.ECBAPII.— OWN noUKKSrOSnENT.) Aitki.ami, Friday. Some strange revelations regarding tlie electric light business are promised. It seems that Mr Firth's last offer to light the city by means of towers has never been brought before the City Council though made on the 9th February. The " Bell" has a very strong artiele on the subject tl.is evening, in which it roundly states that some influence is at work in the Council in the interests of the (las Company, and declares its intention to publish the names of the councillors, and their relatives and friends having shares in the Company. The present gas lamps give 5000 candle power, while Firth's tower .scheme would give 04,000 caudle power, at an increased cost of a little over 100.
