PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.
Tiik Piako County Council held its usual monthly meeting at Mr Pavitt's office, To Aroha, ;it 4 o'clock on Tlmrsdsty afternoon. Tliero was a full Council present—viz., Crs. Cliepmell (chairman), i [eaney, Dibble, Browning, Mills, Brunskill, Gould, Mnrphv and Williams. Messrs T. G. S.milo/ ami K. Pavitt, county engineers, were in attendance. The outward correspondence was read, and adopted. Or.AiiKK's Drain'.—Mr Clarke wrote to the Chairman, asking for permission to lay a set of pipes under the road, so as to allow him to Ret water for domestic purposes. He had not received any reply, and acting on the information of Cr. Mills, that the Council would not prevent him laying the pipe*, he had had them laid. The Engineer reported that the pipes were only a foot under the ground at the lower end, and the end one would be washed away with every flood of water coining through, and 011 till a deep chasm had been formed.— I The Chairman moved that Mr Pavitt be instructed to take up the pipes, and take charge of them as county property.— Seconded by Cr. Williams—Cr. Mills moved, as an amendment, that as the pipes were now in they be left.—The amendment lapsing for want of a seconder, the original motion was put and carried, Cr. Mills alone voting against it. Hif.r, Pack Tkack.—Mr Burke waited on the council with tho object of getting the Pack Track from Butler's spur to the Welcome Licensed Holding. He said that a portion of the road had slipped away, and it was too narrow to get along; with safety, and several trees were now lying across the track. He estimated that the work would cost about £B.— Cr. Murphy moved that £8 be granted to repair the track.-Seconded by Cr. Mills and carried. Ratk.—The Clerk to tho Tantaora Road Board wrote, asking that that body be authorised to collect the rate to bo levied in tho Taotaoroa riding, to which the clerk had replied that as the rate had already boon levied, the council had no power to delegate authority to any local body to collect it. Casibriduk-Talto Road. —Tho Clerk to the Taotaoroa Road Board wrote, calling the attention of tho Council to the dangerous state of this road from Morris' corner to tho Taotaoroa boundary.—The Clerk was instructed to reply that as the road was a Government one tho Council could take no action in the matter. Huitswr.—'The Minister of Mines wrote that ho was unable to alter his decision re cancellation of the authorities for the subsidies on tho Tui, Waiorongomai and Stoney Creek tracks, and informing tho Council that with the view t" retrenchment the subsidy of .£BO for tl>e Waiorongomai tramway track was cancelled ; also, that in future subsidies would be granted only on the amount of the tenders let. Patktkuk Loan.—The Secretary to the Treasury wrote that this loan would be granted provisionally on the Act being conformed to. Doxkkv Knoink. —The following tenders wero received for the donkey engine at present on tho side of tho tramway track : —S. Seddon, £21; IX McLean Wallace, £17 10s.—Cr. (imild moved that this matter be deferred for one month, the Council in tho meantime being prepared to accept olfers for tho use of the engine from the minors.— Seconded by Cr. Brunskill and carried. MkWlNcjs.—Cr. Gould, in accordance with notice given at last meeting, moved that in future the meetings of the Council be held at Morrinsvillo.—Seconded by Cr, Williams.—Cr. Murphy asked if the notice had been give.il in accordance with the standing orders, and as it had not it was ruled out of order by the chairman.—Cr. William's notice was likewise dealt with. Hot Baths.—The To Aroha Domain Board wrote, asking the Councillors of the Piako County to accept the tickets enclosed for admission to the hot baths, and a unanimous vote of thanks was accorded to the Domain Board for thair courtesy. Waibiion'co.mai Road,—£2o was granted to tho engineer, to expand as he thinks fit in repair on the road from tho town boundary to tho tramway. SruciAL Mkht'ings. — The Chairman moved that a meeting of the Council be held at 4 p.m. on the 12th April prox. at Te Aroha, for the purpose of making an order, declaring that part of tho county road from the Ohinemuri County boundary going towards Waiorongomai, which lies within the Town District of Te Aroha, shall bo placed under tho control of the Te Aroha Town Board and directing that the cost of constructing and maintaining such part of the said road shall bo borne by the To Aroha Town Board. Seconded by Cr. William's and carried.— The Chairman moved that at the same time and placo a special rate of VI in the £ be levied over all the rateable property in the Patetoro riding exclusive of Crown and native lands for the purpose of providing security for the Patetoro by Cr. Williams and carried. Local Optiox I'or.r,.—Mr Pavitt was appointed Presiding Officer to hold the Local Option Poll atTe Aroha. Disputation'.—Messrs Dobson and Tlott, on behalf of tho Town Board, drew tho attention of tho council to tho dangerous state ot Clarke's drain, and asking that a fence be erected to render it mora safe, and also asking for permission to repair tho footpath in Whitaker-street. The matter of tho fence was deferred to next meeting and permission was granted to repair the footpaths. Accounts.—Tho following accounts were passed for payment :—C. Murphy, £•"> 10<; R. This being all the business the council then rose.
