On Saturday the first match of t!;o seasoji between the l'aterargi and Hamilton Cricket Clubx was played on Sydney Square, Hamilton East, and was won by the I'aterangi Club by three wickets, after a most exciting contest. The I'aterangi captain won the toss, and sent the Hamilton men in first, who made (iS, Browning (1!)), Bowman and Gaudin (12) making the most runs. I'aterangi then went in, and inadn Til), Johnson (20) playing splen.-lid cricket, Case hitting well for his 15. The second innings of tlie Hamilton men was only 52, Gaudin (13), Sandes (12), Browning (11) getting into double figures. 'When I'aterangi started their second innings, there was one hour and a-half in which to make 05 runs to win. Determined to win, they hit freely, giving plenty of catches, but several of the Hamilton men were unable to hold them. Case was missed first ball, and liichriale had a life. With some exceptions, the lidding of the Hamilton men was very bad, whilst that of Rielidale, Kyburn and McFarlane was particularly good. For I'aterangi Crookes and McFarlane bowled splendidly, and Gaudin and Barton did well for Hamilton. HAMILTON. Ist innings. 2nd innings. Browning, b McFar- c Aubin, b lane ... ... ... 1!)
