Tub barque Lanoina, commanded by Captain Whittinghain, from Lauuucston, Tasmania, to this port, lias |jnne ashore in this English Channel and broken up. Seven of the crew were drowned. The feeling between France and Italy is increasing in intensity, and the French military journals are constantly publishing articles insulting King Emmanuel and the Italian nation. Match 10. The master and eleven of the crew of the barque Lanonia, which went ashore in the English Channel, were drowned. In supporting the motion of Sir W. B. Barttelot for the appointment of a commission of inquiry into the military defences of the Empire, Lord Randolph Churchill denounced the extravagance and inefficiency of the War Olh'ce. The Right Hon. Mr Stanhope, Secretary of State for War, made a vigorous reply to his Lordship's speech, and intimated that the Government would consent to the appointment of the commission, the scope of its inquiry, however, being limited to the organisation of the army.
