BEET SUGAR.
to tub Knrroß. Sin.—Xow that petitions aro the order of thd day, would it not ho advisable, instead ot wasting our energy in fruitless endeavours to hang our brothers, East "r West (as the case may be), to combine for one object, the erection of a beet sugar manufactory. That idea of Mr (iraham seems n very good one—the levying of a rate on the. counties for the payment of interest on debentures, and Iho Borough should join with the counties in petitioning Parliament lufore the opening of next session. There am 22,000 tons of sugar used annually in New Zealand, and the quantity is on the increase. Now the. YVaikato district with a central factory can supply this Id per lb cheaper than the imported article. It seems a great pity another session should pass without something being done. We should remember that " unity is strength," and throw these petty jealousies overboard. —Yours truly, DkI'HKSSIO.V Hamilton East, sth March, ISSS.
