The hearing of tho petition le the East Ward licensing election was adjourned till Monday to consider legal points raised by counsel for the Teetotallers who urges that two of.tha Moderate candidates were ineligible and that the appointment of the Returning Officer wait not legal. James Thomas Leo was to-day committed for trial on three charges of obtaining money under false pretences. A case of typhoid fever was reported t" the sanitary Inspector yesterday, from Grey-street, and ono to day was reported from Newton. Mr Barlow, the late Secretary of the Waikato Lodge, Thames, is to be broghl back from Sydney. The funeral of the late Major-dencral Gossot was to hai-o taken plane to-day, but ns his son from Wanganui had not arrived, it was postponed until to-morrow.
