BATHING FATALITY.
BY TK[,Ki;ItAI'II—PRESS ASS'X'IATION. Dunedin, Wednesday. A sad bathing fatality occurred at Ocean Beach to-day. Three young women were bathing in the snrf, close t;> the baths, when one of them got out too far, and m the other two reaching the shore they set up a scream, which attracted the attention of a man named .John McGutciicon, a painter, who was working close at hand. He at once wont in after the girl in the water, but he was apparently .stunned by a breaker. Auothern.au named .fames Gannon took a life belt and line, and swam out o rescue tbe girl, who was safely brought ashore, but McGutcheon was in the meantime drowned. The body was seen floating about in the snrl for snme time, but has not yet been recovered. MuCatcheon was married, and the father of three children. Gannon behaved with great coolness. The thoughtless conduct of those who bathe in the surf close to the baths is greatly condemned.
