HAMILTON DOMAIN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Domain Board was held immediately after the Council meeting on Tuesday evening, the following members being present: Messrs Barton (chairman), Knox, Sandes, Salmon, Wood, 8011, Coates and Jones. Audit. —A letter was received from the Auditor, Major Tisdali, asking for certain vouchers and information in connection with his audit of tho Board's books. —Litter received.
Sydnkv Sqcahr.—'The Recreation Committee, appointed to report 011 the offer of Mr D. Lees to lease the Square for four years, sent in the following recommendations "Your committee recommend to the Board that the grazing of Sydney Square for sheep only be offered by public auction from year to year, the lessee to provide a fence ni the following character, viz.. : — Ten pnriri straining posts and titree stakes in equal numbers to the posts now forming the fence around the square, and also subject to the conditions attached hereto. We further recommend that at the end of the first year, and at the end of the second and third years also, the grazing for sheep only shall be again put up for auction, subject to a fixed sum for the improvement:* thereon. —0. J. W. Barton, chairman "Recreation pominittee." The following are the conditions of lease recommended by the committee : — "The recreation ground known as Sydney Square 4l'J shall be let at public auction for a term of 0110 year for sheep pasture only, at an upset price of Is sterling. The public shall not bo in anywise restricted in the use and enjoyment of such recreation grounds. The iessee must at the request of the Board, at any time required, remove the sheep on occasions for sports. He must also protect the trees from injury by erecting a fence, consisting of ten standing posts and strong titree stakes in equal number to the fence round the square, the wires to be four in number, size No. 8. All the trees and shrubs in the square must, be attended to and kept in good order, trimmed and weoded, to assist their growth, and the lessee be responsible to the Recreation Committee that these conditions be complied with. Any trees or shrubs dead or missing must be replaced by the lessee at his own cost. At the end of the term the square will bo again put up to auction on the same terms and conditions, and subject to a sum to be fixed for the fencing improvements."—The Chairman moved that the report be adopted.— Soconded by Mr Sandes and carried.—Mr Sandes moved, and Mr Jones seconded, that in the event of the recreation ground being relet at the beginning of the second year that the sum of £•"> be the amount allowed for improvements to the outgoing lessee by the incoming 0110. —Carried. I'ahic Rushkvh.—Mr Sandes moved that the park reserve bo placed in the hands of Mr Lees to be let for grazing for cattle and horses at a weekly charge of 1s each for horses and lid each for horned cattle, seconded by the chainnan and carried. Mr Knox moved that a reward of tl be offered for the conviction of the person or persons who took the park gate off its hinges, but the motion having no seconder lapsed. Mr Knox then gave notice to move at next meeting that owing to the lax way in which the park reserve is attended to, it bo thrown open to the public. The chairman moved that the clerk be instructed to write to the ranger asking him to givo moro attention to the interest of the Board with respect to the park roserve, seconded by Mr .rones and carried. OvKiiimAi'T.—This question was referred to the Finance Committee to report on.
Notice or Motion.—Mr Knox gave notice to inovo at next meeting that tho Board request the Borough Council Co reduce the amount charged for interest on the £1000 loan from !) per cent, to (i per cent.
Accounts. —The following accounts were brought forward to be passed for payment : —Maunder, timber, -Is; Carder, Bros., pipes, £7 10s ; Millars, R. I<\, timber for juttv, £7 os ; Sandes, It, K., stationery, 9s 9d ; Wright, .J., gate. 5s ; Frear, J., labour at jetty, £4 10s ; Peacock, labour on park reserve, 3s Od ; McKenzie, do., 2s (id. The cost of the jetty at the lake having exceeded the amount voted by the council by £L los, Mr Knox moved that £1 15s be voted to meet the extra amount for the jetty, seconded by Mr Salmon. On being put to the meeting, the motion was lost on the casting vote of the chairman, the voting being, for; Messrs Knox, Salmon, Jones and Sandes, against; The Chairman, and Messrs Wood, Bell, and Coates, The Chairman moved that tho accounts be passed for payment except Mr Millars' account, seconded by Mr Salmon and carried. The Board then rose.
