HARVEST THANKSGIVING SERVICES AT S. ANDREW'S CAMBRIDGE.
The harvest festival at the above Church was held on Friday evening, the spocial services being continued on Sunday. Tho attendance throughout was good. On Friday the Church was crowded and again on Sunday morning, the whole of the seats being tilled. The services were full choral; the responses by Tallis and the canticles by Jackson in F. The anthem was Barnby's, " 0 Lord, How Manifold are Thy works," and was very well rendered, with the exception of the concluding passage, in which ttie choir got decidedly sharp. Appropriate psalms were sung, and went almost without a fault. We congratulate the choir upon the improvement they have made in this part of the service. On Friday the Archdeacon was assisted by the Rev. Mr Marshall, of Te Aroha, who preached an eloquent sermon from tho 3rd chapter of Leviticus, loth and two following verses. On Sunday the Archdeacon took both services; his'sermons, both morning and evening,'referring to the late bountiful harvest. His text in the morninp; was taken from the Epistle of St. James, sth chapter, 7th and Bth ve.rses. The Church was very prettily decorated on similar lines to what has been done for several years, but with fewer evergreens. Inside the communion rails were two stooks of corn, and over the altar two banners with "He shall come again, and bring His sheaves with Him " upon them. Hung round the Church wore other banners with dcvices upon thorn, executed in corn, while fruit and flowers were distributed over the building. Tho olfertory on Friday was very small, considering the crowded state of the Church, being ouly £2 12s 7d.
