OPENING OF CALLIOPE DOCK.

Auukiaxi) on Thursday was on fete, the occasion being the opening of tlie Calliope Dock by the docking of two of Her Majesty's men-of-wm-. At n quarter to ten immediately after the arrival of the vice regal party H.M.s. Calliope steamed quietly into the dock and broke the blue ribbon extended across. The Diamond as the Calliope approached the head of tho dock entered, and at a quarter past ten she was moored astern of the Calliope, and the huge caisson slowly moved into its place, closing the entrance. His Excellency and suite, together with the Admiral and several members of the Harbour Board, then crossed over the caisson to tho enginehouse, when His Excellency started one of the pumping engines, and the Admiral the other. On returning on to the caisson, at the request of Mr Waddel, Chairman of the Harbour Board, His Excellency in a short speech declared tho dock open. A gang of seamen were then detailed to clean the bottoms while a few sheets of copper were replaced on the Calliope. The Calliope and Diamond are expected to be floated out of dock tomorrow. Admiral Fairfax is quite willing to dock H.M.S. Nelson, provided 24 hours' notice is given, Mr Waddel accepted the generous offer, and will try to make arrangements for docking the ironclad. .
