CHAMPION SCULLING RACE.
[By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright]. Sydney, February 11. The sculling race for £200 a-side the championship of the world, between Kemp and Clifford, took place this afternoou on the Parramatta River. A strong breeze was blowing against the men. There was a large attendance of the public. Kemp was the first to grip, and before many lengths had been rowed assumed the lead, which he held to the finish winning easily by six lengths. Time, 23min 47isec. During the race one of the excursion steamers collided with and sank a steam launch which had fifty people 011 board, nil of whom were precipitated into the water, but were rescued. Kemp has accepted Hanlan's challenge to row for the championship and £500 aside, February 12. It has been ascertained that Peel, the engineer of the steam launch which was capsized, has been drowned. He is reported to have sunk immediately the accident occurred. Another one who is believed to have been 011 board is missing.
