MINING.

The Marototo. A NNW drive has been made at the Marototo, and pood prospect* have been obtained. A portion taken at random was as.sa.yel by Mr Rhodes, of Paeroa, and gave the following magnificent return to the ton -.—Gold, 2(>Boz lOdwt. Bgr. ; silver, 2,7<>floz. Odwt, lgr. ; gross value per ton, £1,524 2s. , . It is reported that the prospector s mine, Marototo, has been sold to a Sydney syndidate, represented by Messrs Seaver and Myers, for £10,000, and that £50,000 will be available for developing the mine. Our Ohinemuri correspondent sends the following Contrary to general expectation, the Marototo district appears to be moving ahead. Tho Prospectors claim (Mcßrinn's) has experienced the best revival in the shape of a patch which lias just been struck. A drive has been put in guinn south-west, and is now in about 25 feet. Good prospects have been present from the start, and during the last five or six feet the show has been improving, and at present gold is showing right through. The portion being saved for treatment is about 2ft. wide, and of grand quality. On the hanging wall there is a seam of about Sin. of very rich dirt. A piece of stone was taken out haphazaid by Mr H. C. Wick last Friday, and was as sayed by Mr Chas. Rhodes, Bank of rsew Zealand, Paeroa, giving a return at t.in rate of 208.>z. lO.lwts. Bgrs. of gold, and 27li!)o/.s. Odwts. lgr. of silver to the ton, value at the rate of £1,524 2s per ton. There is, of course, very little, of this sort, but even a very small quantity of this kind of leaven would soon alter the aspect of affairs in Ohinemuri. In the Arizona, Messrs Edward Quinn and party's claim, matters are ecpially prosperous. Ihe pai fcy were offered a 10 stamp battery, with all fixing, bcrdaus, &c., complete, to be erected free "on the ground, for one-third of the mine. The offer was, however, refused. Both this and the Prospector's claim are likely to be bought outright by tho syndicate, which is represented by Mr beaver, M.L.A., of Australia.
