BARON DE HIRSCH.
A cORKKSrONOKNT writes "It may be of interest to some of your readers to know that tho Baron de Hirsch, referred to in your last Saturday's supplement as the donor of an unparalled gift to the Czar of Russia for the establishment of schools for the of his Jewish brethren, at one time resided in Waikato, and that the present Baron is no other than James de Hirsch, who was a member of Captain Kripner's Company «f Waikato Militia, most of whoru are now located in and around Ohaupo. After the disbandment of the Militia, Mr de Hirsch went into partnership with a Mr Burra, of Auckland, and traded under the style of Burra and de Hirsch, and subsequently, after tho opening of the Thames goldlield, Mr de Hirsch erectcd large reduction works at tho Thames for traating tailings. On the death of his father Mr de Hirsch returned to Germany, and became head of the large banking business, whose head quarters are at Munich.
