LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRI«t'OXI)KS"C.] Auckland, Monday. A young mail named Win. Smith attempted suicide to-day with a pen knife, but iliil not inflict serious injuries, tie gave as his reason that he had 110 money, and could not pay his debts. Two more habitues of the Domain were sent to. Mount Eden to-day. The Te Anau arrived from the South to-day. Col. Shepherd was a passenger from Gisborne. It is rumoured that the Tramway Co , intend to buy the ferry steamers Eagle and Osprey and run them to St. Helliers Bay with the object of popularising that suburb, where the company owns a large area of land. Two additional burglaries have been discovered, but the thief is still at large. Mr G. N. Brassey has received from Bolton, England, a number of affidavits relating to the charges he preferred against Mr Rigby prior to his departure for America. He informs us that they point to the misappropriation of thousands of pounds, but refuses to make the contents known to the press as he considers them the property of the Auckland Law Society.
