(By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Si'UNHV, February 4. K.M.s. Nbi.son, accompanied by H.M.S. Diamond and Calliope, took their departure this afternoon for Auckland. His Excellency Sir William Jervois, is a passenger on board the Admiral's ship. John Grace, who was arrested on suspicion of having murdered John Stapelton, a miner, near Armidale, has been committed for trial. He has admitted that the pair of blood-stained trousers, found by the detectives, were his property. The sculling race between T. Clifford and T. Kempt for £200 a-side and the championship of the world will be rowed over the champion course on the Paramata River. Melbourne, February -1. It is understood that the result of the Conference of Premiers last week has favourably impressed Mr Playford, of South Australia, with the advantages of joining the Federal Council. Sir H. Parkes is still disinclined. The visit of the Imperial military officer is also discussed, and the matter is not to be allowed to drop. General Sir F. S. Roberts is likely to be asked to gome. |
