THE SWIMMING MATCHES.

TO THE HDITOK. Sir, —Just a few lines, and the last as far as I am concerned re the letters appearing- in your issue of Saturday last. Your correspondents do not seem to understand my contention fully. It is this, that Mr H. Smith signed himself as an official which he really was not, in fact committed a mild sort of fraud on the public. He first advertises himself us Hon. See. to the Anniversary Waikato Swimming Sports. Next he signs himself Hon. Sec. Waikato Anniversary Swimming Races (which he certainly is not) Then again he is "The Secretary Waikato Anniversary Swimming Sports" (no such thing has yet existed) and finally the committee who appointed him as their secretary sign themselves " The Committee H. (Hamilton Anniversary or Annual Swimming Races, I suppose). Now what is lie really secretary of ? Perhaps he knows if no one else does. His statement that he is the Hon. Sec. Waikato Anniversary Swimming Races is certainly quite as true as is his assertion that the Lake is two miles from Hamilton. Both are on a par and the public are the best judges of their accuracy.—l am, Sir, yours &c. , HON. SEC. W.A.S.R. Hamilton West, February (>th. 1888. [This must ulose the correspondence. — En. W.T.I .
